Dear Faculty, Staff, and Students -

We’re writing to inform you about an upcoming critical software update to Moodle, our Learning Management System (LMS), that will temporarily affect system access and functionality.

Key Changes and Timeline:

MOODLE WILL BE OFFLINE during an update period from December 20, 2024 to January 6, 2025

NOTE: Moodle will remain available intermittently in view-only mode* this means:

    • You can access and view all existing course materials, grades, and resources
    • Any *changes to course content, assignments, or grades made during this period will not be saved or reflected in the update available on January 6th
    • Students will maintain “view-only” access to all published materials

This update will enhance system stability and introduce new features supporting our commitment to accessible and inclusive education. We appreciate your patience and cooperation during this transition.

Best regards,

Elaine Plourde [Learning Systems Specialist]

Countdown to Fall & Moodle Upgrade

by Elaine Plourde -

Dear Faculty and Staff-

Beginning June 30th, Moodle shells will begin to be generated and populated with class rosters for the Fall semester. Aside from student enrollments Moodle shells will be mostly devoid of pre-populated content (which you may be accustomed to seeing in previous semesters).

After June 30th, you are encouraged to build your new courses, copy your previous courses, etc. For more information about how to copy courses or re-use specific content please visit "What's new in Moodle".

An upgrade to the Moodle learning management system is scheduled for July 21st. This upgrade is essential to ensure we continue to provide a secure, and streamlined experience for our students and instructors.

We understand that platform changes can bring questions, and we want to assure you of a smooth transition. Here's what you need to know

 -- Your Content is Safe!

We want to emphasize that none of your existing Moodle content will be lost during this upgrade. All your courses, activities, resources, grades, and user data will be migrated to the new version. Your hard work and valuable materials are secure.

-- What to Expect:

After July 25th:

While your content will remain intact, things may look a little different in the updated Moodle interface. You might notice:

  • Refreshed User Interface: The visual design and layout of Moodle may have a more modern feel, potentially with reorganized menus or navigation elements.
  • Minor Formatting Shifts: While content will be preserved, there's a small possibility that some complex formatting (e.g., custom HTML, embedded elements) might display differently in the new version.

After August 1st:

To ensure a seamless experience, we kindly request that you review your Moodle shells after August 1st. Please take a few moments to:

  • Check for any formatting issues: Briefly navigate through your courses to ensure all text, images, and embedded content appear as expected.
  • Verify due dates and other settings: Confirm that all assignment due dates, and other activity settings are correct.

Support and Training are Available!

To help you familiarize yourself with the updated Moodle and address any questions or concerns, feel free to schedule a 1-on-1 meeting with Elaine Plourde.

Your cooperation and understanding as we work to enhance Moodle @ CU is much appreciated.

Thanks,
-Elaine
